July 27 Sketches

Did a bunch of sketching yesterday. The first two are studies for the next Illustration Friday topic. The rest are from my nephew's roller hockey game. I wasn't sure if I wanted to post the hockey drawings because they're pretty rough, but here they are anyway.
First pic done with pen and India ink. The rest done with Sharpie pen.

I really like the first two of the construction workers. I love the expressions and the lines. As for the hockey games, it's a fast game so I understand that's it's really hard to capture them, but how did you do those? o_O I could totally picture them moving on yours

Thanks, Alex. Capturing the movement of the players comes from a lot of practice with gesture drawing. My drawing teacher really drilled us in the few semesters that I took figure drawing. I remember when he had us visit a ballet class to draw the dancers. I gained an entirely new respect for Degas' dancers.

The skater drawings really capture the action! Well done! Your line drawings are very clear and concise. I like that very much. nancy

I was so impressed with the action drawings - you really captured the sense of movement in the figures. I liked the construction workers, too. Beautiful drawings. Impressive work.

Reformatted the pics per request of Revelle. That's one thing I don't really care for with blogger.com is the formatting limitations. But it's free, so who am I to complain? Thanks for all the nice comments!

Nicely done. Moving subjects are always so difficult, but you've done a nice job. The construction pics are my faves, though.
