Francis Ford Coppola Study

I am in the process of building up my illustration portfolio. It is difficult to narrow my artistic approach to just one or two styles because I enjoy the many ways in which art can be inspired and created. Maybe if I ever see any great success in the field clients will allow me to be more flexible with my imagery.
Since I am pretty good at drawing pictures of people in conceptual settings, I decided to focus my work on portraits of well known people and celebrities. This gives me lots of material to work from and should be lots of fun as I build up my portfolio.
Francis Ford Coppola is one of my favorite movie directors and his work on The Godfather is truly a work of art.
Drawn with 0.9mm mechanical pencil.

This is wonderful. May I ask what size you do your portfolio? I've never done one, but I think it might be a good idea. Thanks.

Raena- As an illustrator, most of my "portfolio" is exhibited on my Wordpress website. Therefore, it can accomodate various sizes of artwork. If I am asked to actually present a physical portfolio, I have a leather bound one that fits an 8"x10" format. The physical portfolio never contains original artwork because there is always the possibility of it getting damaged or lost. So quality prints are made of each work that I choose. I take the photos myself on my digital camera and save them on my USB flash drive. I go to Office Depot for prints and they take the photos right off my flash drive; they have really good prints for the price. If you are thinking about having a portfolio I would suggest that you research the industry that you are wanting to market to; each industry has its own standards and quirks.
