Cambodian Buddhist Temple Sketches

Last Saturday I was privileged to visit with a drawing group at a Cambodian Buddhist Temple here in Stockton, California. What an incredible visit! Outside on the temple grounds were well over a dozen statues/sculptures depicting the story of Buddha. Other than the ones that were not yet completed, the sculptures were all hand-painted; a very colorful sight. If I were visiting just to see the sculptures it would have been well worth the trip. Getting to draw at the grounds was icing on the cake!
The group that I was drawing with is call Jagged Lines of Imagination (JLI), with most of its students being children. I tried to get my son to go with me but he shyed out of the event (he wanted to stay home and do his own drawings, so how could I discourage such motivation?) Maybe he'll decide to go on the next outing. Though there were mostly children were at this event, I think any adult wanting to learn about drawing on location would benefit from these sessions. At the very least, I always enjoy hearing other artist explain the artistic process in their own personal way.
