Gesture Drawings

Here are some gesture drawings that I did from a website that I recently discovered. It's called Gesture Drawing Tools . The thing I like about is that it offers a lot of options for models and poses and that the amount of time the pose are held can be adjusted. I especially like that it features an animals category. Even though certain poses get repeated, I find it is a great way to warm up to prepare for my art projects. Though the site is a good resource, it sure makes me wish I could afford a real model.
I have used this site two days out of this week. On the first day I completed about 40 ink drawings. On the second, I drew 50 gestures. Though I don't plan on creating that many drawings on a regular basis, I do plan on trying to warm up before the work day for about 10 minutes. Also drawing over 90 drawings allowed me to finish up a sketchbook that I really didn't like that much. It made me feel like it wasn't a total waste of money.

Here are some gestures that I did. This first set was done with a #3 round brush with India ink. Though it was a little hard to control I like these drawings the best.

This second set was done with pen and ink. Using a dip pen was really challenging for gestures but a lot of fun. However, I think most of these ended up being just quick drawings and not truly gestures.

These next drawings were done with just a regular #2 pencil, nothing special. I like how pencil easily flows over the surface of the paper to capture the subject. The line quality of pencil is so dynamic.

Here's a few cats. I think I will do a lot of animal gestures in the near future.

Oh, and one big cat.

What an excellent site - thank you so much!! I think these gesture drawings are great - I like how you have varied your style and the drawing tools. Now I need to find an old sketchbook, that I don't like..

Wonderful sketches, David; and thank you so much for the link! I love doing gestures and I've often been dissatisfied with posemaniacs. It is a great site too, but I'm often distracted by all those muscles!

I'm glad for the positive reception to the site. It's alway nice to have live figures (almost) to draw.

I also like the ones with India Ink the best. I use it sometimes, but don't get very satisfying results. Your drawings remind me why I like this medium.
