Here is my latest sermon painting that I painted along with the message for my church's Easter morning service. The main Scripture reference for the painting is found in Ephesians 4: 1-10. The church's minister asked me to come up with an concept that focuses on the idea that Jesus "went up". This was a good opportunity to have a personal Bible study to find where else these words are found in Scriptures. I decided to focus on three references for the painting. The first is found in Matthew 5: 1 where Jesus starts his ministry with the sermon on the mount. The second is found in John 19: 30 where Jesus ministry comes to an end. Finally, the third reference is found in Act 1: 9 which talks about the ascension of Jesus. This is a significant event for Christians because we believe that Jesus was resurrected three days after his crucifixion and eventually went up to heaven, which gives us the hope that the same will happen to those who faithful him.As always, the painting was a challenging experience, but I think I am getting better at planning out the progression of the process so that it fits within the time constraints of a sermon.

Great piece!
I like the way that you depict a series of events by placing them from foreground to background. Also the use of light is really nice... The Light is one of the images that we Quakers use especially often in reference to Jesus and God.
Barbara- Thanks for picking up on the subtle use of symbolism. Christianity has such a rich and deep heritage of symbolism that I find personally meaningful. Though I am familiar with the Quakers, I am not very knowledgeable of their teachings and way of life. I will make a point to look in to more deeply.
