Daily Sketch 52

I took way too much time getting the process of this sketch down for a slide show. So here it is, on the sidebar of my blog, the process of this sketch is available to view for those who are interested in seeing how I improvise with paper and pen.
Actually, though I didn't have specific imagery in mind when I drew this, I was inspired by a quote from Picasso that I heard in a video that I saw this morning:
"Painting isn't an aesthetic operation, it is a form of magic designed as mediation between the strange, hostile world and us, a way of ceasing power by giving form to our terrors as well as our desires. When I came to that realization, I knew I had found my way"
This quote inspired me to make today's sketch more of a personal piece, which is metaphorical on many levels.

That is very atmospheric. I love the way you've managed to pull the features out of the cross hatching. Very clever :)

Great, expressive drawing. I know it took a lot of time for you to make the slideshow, but THANK YOU. It's a rare treat to get to see how an image comes together from start to finish.

Love the drawing and the quote! I think I'll put the quote on my blog also. It's such a truism for all of us artists! Your wrk is so espressive!
