Finally was able to purchase India ink. Surprisingly, I got it from Michael's. Aaron Brother's doesn't carry it anymore. They are becoming less and less of an art store it seems.
The first drawing is of Ruby on a walk drawn from a photograph. She is a terrier mix and we believe the "mix" is part chihuahua. One can really see the chihuahua in this drawing. The second drawing is of Ruby tearing up her toy turtle. she's really going to town on it!
First drawing was done with pen and India ink. The second was done with a 0.9mm mechanical pencil.

They are really beautiful sketches of your dog. I have Indian ink and wish my sketches would come out like yours. What do you use to apply it?
Great sketches. So what pen are you using with the ink? Are you using a dip pen or something else?
Both sketches are nice, but I do like the top one-maybe because it is darker.
Thanks for all your nice comments. I use a Speedball crow quill nib with pen holder with Higgin's Black Magic waterproof India ink. I never dip the pen but use the dropper on the ink bottle to place ink in the nib; much neater than actually dipping the pen. Occasionally I like to use a #3 or #1 sized sable brush for linear accents. They are really expensive but achieve really nice line quality. I also keep a container of water to rinse my nib and brush throughout the drawing process to keep the pen from clogging. I use a soft cloth to dry the nib. Sounds like a chore but it is not so bad once you get used to it.
This is by far my favorite. I simply love everything about it. The expression on the dog's face, the dropped shadow, the lines and strokes... amazing!

I am just getting caught up with your drawings. They are great! I can see the chihuahua influence in your terrier mix (don't see the terrier as much). I have thought a lot about your comments about drawing quantity, especially as I belabored my one drawing of Fritz and killed it in the end. It makes sense.
