Illustration Friday: Surrender

This seems to be a reoccurring theme, two ultimate fighters beating the stuff out of each other. Though I think ultimate fighting is pretty silly, I think the imagery is becoming a personal metaphor for the concept of competition. To me, fighting is the essential mentality of all competition. Even though the means of competition may differ, such as fists, running, writing, speech, debate, pencils, pens, or paint brushes, the mentality is still the same; there's a winner and there's a loser. In an ideal world, contribution rather than competition would be held in high regard. The way I see it, all of us are uniquely made and therefore have something unique to contribute to society. How can the unique be in competition? There can only be an appreciation for differences that make societal contribution rich in its diversity.
Wow, all that from a couple of guys beating each other up. Better step off the soap box for now!

Drawn with pen, brush and India ink.
