Here is a slide show of the drawing process for my latest addition to my drawing series. I'm having fun experimenting with Windows Movie Maker. However, I have been frustrated with adding my own recorded music to the video. For some reason the audio does not come through. I think it might be my input levels on my recording software. I'll have to work out the kinks when I get a chance. Instead of using my own music I used a song from a Frank Zappa CD called Variations on the Carlos Santana Secret Chord Progression. I hope I'm not violating any rights by posting it.
Here is just the drawing. Done with pen/ink and brush/ink.

Good video, you make it look so easy.
awesome video and technique! =)
Awesome! I'm interested in knowing how/why you put in the background above the head first. Did you just visualize the top of the head and paint around it?
Thanks for all the nice comments.
Carole - I started with the negative space (background) just to keep things loose and fresh. Sometimes I like to use negative space to form the edge of the positive space rather than using line. I didn't quite visualize the top of the head, I first drew a loose gesture of the figure in pencil, then I applied ink. However, I could have just visualized it if I wanted to.
Really enjoyed the process. Since I'm just learning, I always start with the eyes and was fascinated by seeing the background applied first.
This was FUN! Nicely done, too...
Loved seeing you work! I hope you don't mind if I try something similar to this.?
Thanks, Raena. Don't mind at all if you do something similar. I'd love to see it.
Great video David.
I don't think Frank would mind about the music but watch out for Gail, I've heard she can be a little keen on copyright things.
ElasticUnicorn - That would make sense, since Gail handled a lot of the business for Frank.
just loving all of these.
