Our sleeping dog. She was finally still, if but only for a moment.Drawn with a Sharpie pen.
Here is a sketch of our minister giving the message. I had to be fast because I also sing throughout the time of worship, and so when he is done speaking I have to go up on stage with the other singers. This is where not being able to erase doesn't really apply because there is no time to do it. A closer look at certain details will show that I sometimes draw transparently, then use rendering techniques to develop form and hide the transparency of shapes and objects (but not always).
Here's a sketch that I did of my son as we watched a video. He is wearing his new red sweat jacket which is fleece lined. He likes it so much that he wanted to wear it to bed last night and he wore it almost all day today. So naturally I had to color my sketch to show the color of his jacket.
At the wife's parents' house for Thanksgiving. Sister-in-law did much of the cooking. Good time with the family.
We took the dog to Applehill today. The weather was beautiful, and since it was during the weekday, there was hardly a crowd. Though I brought my sketchbook I didn't do any drawing while I was there. Sometimes it is just too difficult to spend time with family and make time for art on a trip. Good thing I brought my camera. Though it is not the same experience, sometimes it is good to get a camera's perception on a scene. It will occasionally catch details that I miss when I'm caught up with trying to capture an image from life.
EDM 250 - Draw something free.
More old men. Actually, it is three views of the same imaginary guy. This picture is just a little shy of being a nude figurative drawing. I feel hesitant to publish something like that on my blog because I don't want to offend anyone.
Four days ago I thought the son just had a cold and that he would get over it in a day or so. Today we had to take him to the doctor for an ear infection. We also found out that his ear drum has a perforation from the pressure of fluid. Ouch! This is a sketch of the son sleeping on the couch with dog at feet. He slept all day.
Worked in a smaller sized 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" Moleskine sketchbook today. It is a bit of a challenge for me to draw at such a small scale compared to what I am used to. I decided to "cheat" an work on a spread so I had 5 1/2" x 7" to work on. This sketch was done at Rubio's which is starting to be one of my favorite places to eat.
Here is one of the son watching TV. Poor boy. He had to stay home from school today because he has a cold. Not the worst thing in the world, but I still feel bad for him. He pretty much relaxed all day watching DVDs. We also watched an old classic via Netflix, the 1931 version of Dracula with Bella Lugosi. He thought it was OK.
This drawing is a study for this week's Illustration Friday topic "Blur". I like it when rendering a picture gets to the point where form is manipulated like clay. It reminds me of the etching process where numerous states show the process and metamorphosis of the print.
Here's my take on EDM247 "Draw something creepy". Some guys hanging out in a shopping center parking lot, one of them dressed in his Halloween costume wearing nothing but a diaper, sunglasses, flip flops, and a cigarette in his hand. TMI! Some things just weren't meant to be seen (and here I am sharing it on the Internet).
Another sketch from the Sunday class. The class is on the apostle Paul's book to the Galatian church. Very good study. I think our modern society gives Paul a bad rap. Because of some of his writings (taken out of context) he has been labeled chauvinistic. However, a closer examination of his writing will find non-sexist (and non-racist)views that were really ahead of the times in the first century. In some ways, depending on the part of the world, his views are ahead of our times. I think Paul's teachings lay some of the ground work for equal rights for all people in society. It makes me wonder why today's church is not more proactive when it comes to such issues.
